Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent book on magic tricks? Preferably one
with lots of pictures and simple enough instructions for a natural
blonde to understand.
:-)
Amazon has loads on their website and many have very good reviews but I
can't afford to buy them all, and picking one or two is proving to be
very difficult.
Thanks,

I would recommend anything by Robert Harbin, and, strangely enough,
anything by Paul Daniels..
A lot of people dislike Paul Daniels because he's a short, whiny,
balding Yorkshire git who married Debbie McGee, but when it comes to
magic, and especially the history and the workings of illusion, he
really does know what he's talking about.. I don't know if his adviser
(one Ali Bongo) has written anything, but if he has, his would be worth
looking at too..

A lot of people dislike him because he's a racist, or so I've heard.

My personal favourite is "The Mysterious Book of Magic" by Peter Eldin.
The reason it's my favourite is that it doesn't stop at explaining how
to do the tricks. It goes deeper than that, giving tips on how to give
a good performance, how to develop your own style as a magician, and -
especially - advice about how to invent your own magic tricks. This is
usually a matter of taking various existing tricks and combining them
in new ways. The book actually did inspire me to invent my own (an
embellishment of a _very_ famous trick, but with enough of my own
personal touch that I feel justified in calling it mine).
While we're on the subject, here are some magic-related websites I
like. Neither of these are useful as such for beginners, but they are
entertaining:

Ali Bongo's Book of Magic, Black Cat Books, 1981 (reprinted
1987). Includes wand designs, and how to combine different
tricks into an act. And it's simple enough *I* can use it.
And it's available from Amazon:

The other magic book I had as a kid was The Puffin Book of
Magic by Norman Hunter (of Professor Branestawm fame), which
is *also* available on Amazon.
